Alternative to SurferSEO that's FREE!?
Content optimization at no cost
I recently became aware of a site called Zizta that offers a completely free content optimization tool.
It’s a great alternative to SurferSEO, Frase, etc. especially if you’re on a tight budget.
They’re sponsoring this email, but even if they weren’t, this is 100% worth sharing. It’s not every day you find a completely free version of a very expensive tool!
Here’s how it works:
Visit the content optimization tool.
Enter your target keyword, country, and language.
For existing pages, enter the URL of the page you want to optimize. Otherwise, select “For a New Web Page”.
Click “Create Page” and sign up for a free account.
I tested it on the verrrry high value keyword, “houston truck accident lawyer”, which has a CPC of $80.
Here’s Zizta’s content score for the 9th result on the SERPs (bottom of the first page of Google results):
As you can see, this page only scored 26%.
If you add the necessary amount of red phrases shown in the right sidebar, the score will go up. The higher the score, the more closely the page matches the top five SERP results for that keyword.
If you’re unfamiliar with content optimization, the basic premise is that you include words and phrases in your article that Google “expects” to see.
For the keyword “houston truck accident lawyer”, Google expects to see “truck accident”, “houston”, “lawyer”, and many other related terms that show the article is relevant to the search term.
If the top ranking results all contain similar words/phrases, it’s a good idea to include those in your content as well, since Google evidently thinks those words/phrases are relevant for the keyword. This is why content optimization tools are so helpful. They compare the top ranking results to your page, and tell you exactly what words/phrases you should add in order to improve your chances of ranking.
Anyway, after checking the bottom result, I decided to check the top ranking result for the same keyword:
The top result scored 53%. Twice what the bottom result scored.
This doesn’t mean the higher the score, the higher you’ll rank.
Sometimes lower ranking results score higher than the top results, and the reason the top results rank better may be due to backlinks, brand authority, click-through ratio, etc. But all else being equal, better-optimized content is better. 🙂
As you can see from the screenshots, Zizta has a built-in text editor. After editing your content, you can re-check your content score to see how much it improved.
A word of caution:
If you look in the above screenshot, you’ll see I just added a bunch of phrases in the second paragraph that don’t make sense together. I only did that to demonstrate the tool.
DO NOT stuff your content with the suggested phrases like this. Instead, weave them into your content where it makes sense (or add whole sections to accommodate them).
Your content should be user-friendly and easy-to-read. Keyword stuffing is against Google’s guidelines and is an excellent way to euthanize your site.
If you’re struggling with knowing where to add specific words and phrases to your content, AI can help. I don’t recommend publishing straight AI content, but I do recommend using AI to help brainstorm or provide a rough draft you can edit.
You can optimize your content manually or with the help of ChatGPT, or upgrade to Zizta’s paid version which includes built-in AI to help optimize your content. (The paid version includes tons of other super valuable SEO tools as well. You can see the whole list on the homepage.)
Here’s a video from Zizta that shows the content optimizer tool in action:
