How to find underserved, low-competition niche ideas

Sharing two methods (free and paid)

There are multiple great ways to find niche ideas.

I’ll share two methods here (free and paid).

To see all my methods, check out my mini course, Niche Discovery Formula (free with a Website Growth Mastermind membership).

Quickest, easiest method

By far, the best way to find great niche ideas is to use a tool specifically built for the purpose, such as Site Stats Database.

Site Stats Database contains over 158,000 websites in more than 2,000 different niches (and growing).

The database shows the site URL, estimated organic traffic, Domain Authority, site age, monetization method, niche(s), and more.

You can sort and filter by any of those metrics to uncover all the sites that fit your specific criteria (think high traffic, low DA sites - you can find thousands in less than a minute!)

It’s a crazy powerful tool.

Here’s a site doing very well in a niche I’ve never heard of before (it’s a subset of the gaming niche). I found it in less than a minute using Site Stats Database:

181,000 visitors/mo with a DR of just 6!??

The database contains sites monetized by:

  • Mediavine

  • Raptive

  • Ezoic

  • Amazon Associates

  • NeworMedia

  • Ecommerce

  • and 16 other ad/affiliate networks

How do you use it to find niche ideas?

  1. Sign up

  2. Go to the website database page

  3. Scroll through the list of sites, or set filters to find sites that match your criteria.

    1. The list is automatically sorted by Performance Score which takes into account traffic, domain authority, and age. The better the score, the more of an outlier (sites with high traffic, low DA, and low age are rare and indicate the niche they’re in is easy).

    2. Feel free to sort and filter by anything else. You can find plenty of unique niche ideas just by filtering by monetization method, for example.

  4. Check the “Niche” column to see what niche each site is in. If it’s “unknown”, you’ll have to visit the site to know for sure.

To show you what the database includes (and looks like), here’s a screenshot of the highest-traffic sites monetized by Mediavine:

There are actually 9,266 sites monetized with Mediavine in the database!

You’ll probably have to click the image and zoom in to see it properly.

Don’t worry, the actual database is full-size and very easy to view.

How much does it cost?

Right now, Site Stats Database costs $24/month, $149/year, or $199/lifetime.

Those prices only last until November 30th (3 days from now).

They’ll then increase to $29/mo, $249/yr, and $399/lifetime.

Method 2: Free, but more time-consuming

Find sites for sale and check what niche they’re in.

Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Go to the Flippa websites category

  2. Scroll through the results (there are several thousand for sale at any given time)

Some sites are confidential, but the niche is usually mentioned in the title.

You can filter the list to show sites at a certain traffic level, income level, age, and more.

You can also check out the sites for sale on Motion Invest for niche ideas. Same concept as with Flippa. Note that you will need to create an account to view the URLs. It’s free and totally worth it!

This method takes much longer, and you’ll only see sites that are for sale. You’ll miss out on the vast majority of sites that AREN’T for sale. But hey, at least it’s free!

If you do have $199 (or just $24/month) to spare, Site Stats Database is totally worth it if you want to find dozens of underserved niches in a matter of minutes.

Let me know if you have any questions. And happy niche hunting! 😁
