I started my first successful niche site back in 2016. I didn’t know much about keyword research and SEO.
What I did know was that I should write about topics people actually searched for on Google, as opposed to things like “What I did today”.
From the very start, I was determined to be successful. I had read a stat on an affiliate marketing forum saying only 2% of people who try affiliate marketing ever become successful (I don’t remember what they considered “successful” though).
I decided I was gonna be in that 2%, no matter how much work it took. I also wanted to pay for college with my website income, which is the “why” that kept me going.
A year after starting that site, I was making around $50/month. My articles were objectively great, better (in my opinion) than the other articles ranking on the first page. And yet, mine didn’t rank very high.
So I did a bunch of research on how to make my articles rank higher. I absorbed everything I could from Brian Dean, Neil Patel, and other SEO experts, and started putting what I learned into practice.
Six months later, my site was earning over $2,000/month.
Another six months later, it reached $12,000/month.
All I did was add a few new articles targeting valuable yet low competition keywords, update older articles for on-page SEO, and improve my site’s technical SEO.
Thus began my obsession with SEO.
I read everything I could about it. I spent hours watching YouTube videos about it. I went deep down the rabbit holes of “black hat” vs. “white hat” techniques, the link building vs. no link building debate, SEO experiments, and so much more.
My SEO obsession has continued to this day and shows no signs of letting up. One of my favorite things is learning a new SEO technique I’ve never heard of. I always get a huge rush of excitement. Sounds funny, but if you’re a fellow SEO nerd, I’m sure you can relate! 😂
I have a collection of unique SEO strategies I’ve learned over the years that I’m always adding to. Which gave me an idea…
Why not launch a newsletter where I share these lesser-known SEO strategies? And to add even MORE value, I could share the latest news in the world of SEO so subscribers can easily stay up to date.
With the idea in hand, I turned to my trusty newsletter platform beehiiv, and ChatGPT for name ideas.
And with that, SERP Scoop was born:

To celebrate the launch, I’ll share a couple lesser-known SEO tips right now! These are both from Twitter followers.
First up, getting backlinks from images you create:
Photo shoots to specifically create images with Creative Commons by attribution licenses. Release them out into the wild then collect your free attribution links through reverse image search and outreach.

Second, changing your site’s internal linking structure to prioritize seasonal or trending content:
Adapting internal linking on seasonal trending content, if it's made on a monthly basis you always get the most traffic you can gain every month
