I came across an interesting thread on X/Twitter today.

The author (who manages Facebook pages totaling 65+ million followers) lays out the process for growing a Facebook page to a million followers with just $1,000 in ad spend.

With a million-follower page, you can earn $10,000s to $100,000s per month.

By the way, after sending yesterday’s email, a couple people mentioned to me that there would be copyright issues with remixing music for YouTube. Yes, people still do it and are monetized, but it’s illegal without having written permission from the music label. Sorry I didn’t mention this! I’ve seen soooo many remixes and song covers on YouTube and didn’t realize this was copyright infringement. Good to know!

The steps to grow a Facebook page to a million US-based followers are:

  1. Start a page like campaign. Target a broad audience. Only target people in the US. Use a large image with big text and a finger emoji pointing down to the like button. The text should be something like “Love [topic]? Then Like Our Page”. Split test multiple ads until your cost per like is $0.01 or less.

  2. Post viral-style content. 6 posts per day to start with, and then gradually increase to 12 and then 16 per day.

  3. Your page will soon attract organic followers. If you can get to a 10:1 organic follower to like ratio, it’ll only cost $1,000 to reach 1,000,000 followers with a cost of $0.01 per page like (~100K likes from ads, ~1 million organic followers).

  4. Invite people who have interacted with your page to like it. This can result in lots of likes you don’t have to pay for!

The crazy potential with Facebook pages

Another of Publisher in a Box’s X threads dissects a Facebook page earning nearly $400,000 per month:

This page drives traffic to a website with “link in first comment” posts.

The articles on the site are about viral music-related topics. One example shared in the X thread is a post about Ed Sheeran randomly showing up at a mall where a fan was singing one of his songs, and joining her on stage.

There’s a link in the first comment for readers to watch the video. However, the link takes readers to an article (which is plastered in ads) where the video is embedded, rather than to YouTube itself.

The article summarizes what happened, includes some pictures (which are screenshots from the YouTube video), and of course includes the video.

This format is extremely effective (and simple). Find some viral YouTube videos in your niche, write articles summarizing what happened, add some still shots from the video, and embed the video. Done. And since it already went viral on YouTube, chances are good it’ll go viral on Facebook too.
